Prepare A 3D Printable Model

About:

You will typically require this service if you have:

• An object or product idea (figurines, action figures, accessories, mechanical parts, ...)  that you want to 3D-print

3D models must have certain characteristics to be 3D-printable. To name a few, they must:

• be manifold or watertight
• have correct, consistent normals
• have proper thicknesses

At the start of the project, I will need one or more of the following:

• A Written description of what you want to be modeled
  
  
• Hand sketch(es) or illustrations
  
  
• Reference images
  
  

This is what I typically do to prepare the deliverables:

• Build one or more 3D models
• Join the models into one manifold model
• For surface details, UV map and add displacement textures (if necessary)
• For colored 3D-printing, UV map and prepare a color texture (if necessary)
• Sculpt details (if necessary)
• Run multiple 3D-printability checks
• Export the final model using an appropriate format, typically, an STL file
  
  

Please note that the file I provide will need to be sliced by a slicing software compatible with your 3D printer.
